At a time when renewable energy still seems the only sustainable way forward, governments continue to squeeze the sector with tariff reductions and ever-increasing barriers of site restrictions and regulation.  In the UK, as a ressult the roll-out of new-build AD has virtually stopped.   Dr. Robin Szmidt recently spoke at the REA Scottish Organics conference in Cumbernauld, describing the way in which upgrading existing compost businesses with integrated AD can lead to improved performance and reap the benefits of improved product quality and throughput.  This is perhaps the most effective strateegy remaining in the sector.  You can download the presentation here or contact us for further details.

Dr. Robin Szmidt of Target Renewables Ltd will address the BIOCYCLE West Coast Conference, 13-16th April 2015, in Portland, Oregon.  The presentation focuses on High Solids (Dry) AD within the context of the emerging demand for a "Circular Economy" that maximises resource use and business integration.  See:               http://www.biocyclewestcoast.com/

Target Renewables research caused quite a stir recently at the Scottish Soils Conference, organised by Scottish Organic Forum. Target Renewables exhibited soils from our project on landfill restoration using soils remediated with recovered quarry wastes. Soils from plots treated with mineral fines (Rockdusts) with high quality compost showed tremendous soil regeneration and plant growth compared to untreated areas. While untreated areas support little plant growth and are at risk of erosion marked improvements from using composts and rockdusts are in plant growth, survival, quality, biomass, biodiversity and general sustainable soil formation.

TRL in Scandinavia and Middle East. New developments in 2014-15 include confidential projects on anaerobic digestion of farm and kerb-side collected wastes at opposite ends of Europe, the near Mid-East and Scandinavia over an extreme temperature range of about 45 or 50 C !

INDUSTRIAL EMISSIONS:  The Environment Agency (EA) are reviewing operation permits to determine if activities undertaken are listed within the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED) and will need to be permitted in due course as an installation.  The EA have produced guidance but it is not definitive.  The regulator's intention is that once this screening exercise is complete they will write directly to all potentially impacted operators formally alerting them to the requirements of IED and to the need to provide further information.  To discuss your situation and for us to assess your future compliance issues please contact Target Renewables.  (March 2014)
